Archaeological Survey – Northern Qatar

A survey of archaeological sites in northern Qatar was conducted utilising the analysis of aerial imagery, intensive and extensive survey, and the detailed recording of sites. A large number of new sites were identified including ephemeral Neolithic occupation, a significant phase of early Islamic activity and extensive later Islamic occupation. The information from the survey work complimented excavation data, allowing a more complete picture of the landscape to be presented. The work also formed an important element of the UNESCO World Heritage inscription of the Zubarah archaeological site into the World Heritage List.
